"These are my first pair of Christian Louboutin's. I got them for my birthday," said Hayden Panettiere at the brand-new Philippe Starck-designed S Bar in Hollywood on Wednesday night. The young Heroes star was among a—what else?—well-heeled crowd that included Ashley Olsen, Molly Sims, Rachel Bilson, Kristen Bell, and Monet Mazur—all of whom had gathered to celebrate the shoe man at a party thrown by Saks' Ron Frasch and Style.com's Candy Pratts Price.

"This is all very exciting—my markers are ready," remarked Louboutin, making reference to his habit of signing his famous red soles for fans. The shoemaker, who said he likes to go hiking, see films, and visit vintage stores while in L.A., was in town for a personal appearance at Saks; the retailer has just completed a renovation of its shoe boutique and installed a retrospective collection of the designer's greatest hits. Asked what separates the Left Coast from the rest of the Louboutin-loving world, he laughed: "Women in L.A. don't really need to walk, so their shoes can't be high enough."
