Chelsea saw more than its usual quota of beautiful people Thursday night when photographer and model-launcher Paul Rowland's exhibition Transformations opened with a cocktail party. The solo show drew poseurs like Hanne Gaby Odiele, Natasha Poly, Kasia Struss, and Julia Dunstall, along with designers Kate Mulleavy and Richard Chai, and lensman Craig McDean. We'll take it as a testament to Rowland's work that the model-to-photographer ratio was easily ten to one. Indeed, it was a happy mix of statuesque women and relatively diminutive skater dudes. That probably explained the astounding number of stocking caps on display (Rowland himself was sporting a purple one). One guest broke it down like this: "If they're worn way back, they're about fashion. If they're worn forward, they're about warmth." Duly noted.
