"The Most Grown-Up Party We've Ever Had"
Vena Cava's Spring 2012 Dinner
The Greeks had nine muses. Vena Cava has 12. For their 1940's-flavored
Spring 2012 collection, designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock opted out of
a fashion show in favor of enlisting a dozen inspirational friends to show
off their clothes at a dinner party at MPD last night. "The most grown-up
party we've ever had," Buhai said, right before everybody threw back tequila
shots. The stylist Kate Young wore white. Tennessee Thomas, who did double
duty as the evening's DJ, wore black. And Sarah Sophie Flicker wore pot
leaves. "Am I so lame that I didn't know these were marijuana plants?" she
laughed, pointing to the green botanical print of her Vena Cava bustier
dress.
Also playing model for the night were Nora Zehetner, the actress; Arden
Wohl, the headband-wearing filmmaker socialite; Annie Clark, the
singer-songwriter who performs as St. Vincent; and Hailey Gates, a childhood
friend who Buhai promises "will be wildly famous soon." The NYU experimental
theater student landed the July/August cover of Jalouse and her dinner
partner was Waris Ahluwalia, so we'd say she's well on her way.
