The Posen Posse
Zac's Pals Toast Him at a Post-Show Dinner
New York fashion week went out not with a bang or a whimper but with a song Thursday night. At Zac Posen's post-show feast at Balthazar, artist David McDermott hopped up on a banquette and serenaded the man of the hour with an a cappella rendition of a "A Pretty Boy Is Like a Melody." It was a fairly Lynchian (as in David) moment and the fashion- and art-heavy crowd ate it up.
The dinner itself was a welcome coda to the hustle and bustle of the last eight days, feeling as it did very "friends and family." Of course, the likes of Stella Schnabel, Steven Klein, and Lauren Hutton fall under that rubric for the precocious Posen. "I met Zac when he was like four years old and his parents took him to see me in Sunday in the Park With George," said Bernadette Peters. "Now he's designing my dresses for the Tonys." Posen, meanwhile, suggested that this was less the end of fashion week than the start of fashion month. "It's the beginning," said the self-confident designer. "For me, I'm interested in a dialogue with Europe."
