The Ron Arad exhibition at MoMA is called No Discipline, and last night's celebration at the museum was as wide open as that implies. Josh Hartnett, Bar Refaeli, Mary J. Blige, and everyone else had pretty much full run of the place, from the sixth-floor show to the sculpture garden and the lobby, where Yannick Alléno of the Paris hotel Le Meurice was dishing out above-par party chow.

Arad has poured most of his prodigious talent into chairs, lamps, and architecture; there are even a couple of squished trash cans with accordion ripples on view here. But Linda Evangelista was on hand to tout (and tote) the handbag he recently designed for Notify denim. "I think I said, 'The world does not need another handbag. Unless, of course, it's something very, very special,' " the supermodel explained. Shaped like a giant teardrop, Arad's liquid-crystal bag goes transparent at the touch of a button.

"I'm not a stylist. I don't want to tweak," the Israeli-born designer said. He was, however, behind the decision to put a pair of red heels in the bag that's on display at the museum. "It could have been bread, it could have been a little kitten," he noted. "But shoes seemed like a good idea at the time." Strolling through the exhibition, Suzy Menkes added her two cents. "Ron Arad is such an inventive person. A handbag, why not? But I really think the garbage can is more my style."
