He'll Take the Fifth
Tommy Hilfiger Celebrates His New Manhattan Flagship
Tommy Hilfiger closed New York fashion week with a bang on Thursday night. Well, it was more like a series of pops, as in the sound of a million Champagne bottles opening. Bubbly was the beverage of choice at the splashy debut of the designer's new Fifth Avenue flagship, where the likes of Mary-Louise Parker, Emily Blunt, Becki Newton, and Penn Badgley joined Hilfiger in a second-floor VIP area that was packed to the gills with security guards, socialites, crashers, and panicky girls in headsets.
In the middle of the crush was Naomi Watts, that most low-key of high-profile actresses. "I like that [Hilfiger's] clothes are so classic and so easy to wear. When you're juggling work and being a mom, you want something that you know is going to work," she said, before she was jostled down the wood-paneled store's sweeping staircase and into her car for part two of the Hilfiger finale. Cleverly, the cocktail reception preceded the brand's Spring show at the Tents. After the boldfaced names were out, an announcer came over the store's loudspeaker to ask everyone to make their way to Bryant Park to join them. "Now it's time for the real party," Hilfiger said.
