Londoners Stave Off Sleep for a Few More Hours to Join Olivier Zahm for Supper
It's always tricky getting people out for a party on the last night of London fashion week. Many fashion weekers have already boarded flights to Milan, and most of those who remain have made mental reservations at the hottest club in town: bed. But if anyone could convince people to stave off the siren song of sleep, it's Olivier Zahm. Especially since the Purple magazine editor doesn't typically do events in London. Call it an affirmation of LFW's buzzy energy right now.
Erdem Moralioglu and Christopher Kane both showed up at the Bethnal Green Town Hall hotel to dine. "Apparently, I'm channeling Don Draper tonight," noted Moralioglu, a little dryly, in response to a Mad Men comment from another guest. It was certainly true that Moralioglu exuded a Draper-esque cool; he didn't seem like a guy who'd just been burning the midnight oil prepping a sizable collection shown just the day before. At any rate, he already had vacation plans in hand: This weekend, he's off to Spain.
But in the meantime, there was eating to be done. And for once, at a fashion dinner, the food wasn't incidental. Michelin-starred chef Nuno Mendes had prepared a tasting menu, comprising such delicacies as pigeon with pecan molé, corn bread and bay leaf yogurt, and a dessert course of beetroot and chocolate. "Yeah," said model Suki Waterhouse, grimacing, "I didn't eat that." A poor decision! Many guests looked skeptical when the dessert plates arrived, but they soon discovered that Mendes' confection was incredibly delicious. Worth losing a little sleep over, for sure.
