Legend in the Making
A Big Performance by AmfAR in Milan
It was a fashion show of a different kind last night at Milan's La Permanente, where amfAR celebrated its 25th anniversary in gala style. Heidi Klum and Bar Refaeli were on the host committee; Isabeli Fontana and Natasha Poly took to the stage to auction off a Shambhala bracelet; and Karlie Kloss, Chanel Iman, Constance Jablonski, and Izabel Goulart were in the crowd. The evening honored amfAR's international co-founder, the late Elizabeth Taylor. Roberto Cavalli walked away with a famous Bert Stern shot of the actress circa Cleopatra for $45,000. But that's not even close to what auctioneer Simon de Pury estimated Liz's famous diamond will go for at the Christie's auction in December. Prepare yourselves, ladies. The 30-plus carat rock could go for as much as $1 mill per carat.
After a song at the grand piano, amfAR supporter John Legend very generously agreed to have himself auctioned off. Two lucky bidders each won a night's performance for $200,000. "Bidder is better," as the organization's chairman Kenneth Cole put it. In total, $1.4 million was raised for the AIDS cause.
