Good Feelings Abound at Dean and Dan Caten's Paris Dsquared² Boutique Opening
In fashion, as in life, it helps to put on a happy face. "I love their energy, their humor," Carine Roitfeld opined of Dsquared²'s twin designers. "Dean and Dan are always in a good mood—and that's not something you see every day in the fashion world." She and daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld had blown into the opening bash for their new Paris shop, a three-story glass-and-mirror space adjacent to the new Mandarin Oriental. "And of course," she hastened to add, "I love that what they do is so sexy."
The Catens, for their part, were relieved to have a Paris home at last. "It was so difficult to find a place, because the rules are so different here," Dean said. "It's like looking for an apartment," added Dan. "You know when it's right. Paris is a hard baby to give birth to, but it's totally worth it."
The christening party took the crowd—which included Natasha Poly, Natalia Kills, Jamie Bochert, and Ciara—from the shop to the Ritz, done up in an "accidental chic" theme. That meant upturned chairs, chandeliers lazing on the floor, and caged doves scattered here and there to give the illusion the party had been (and gone) 24 hours before. (If there was any confusion, however, the go-go boys at 1 a.m. made clear that tonight was the night.) The crowd danced for hours, another tribute, perhaps, to the hosts' good vibes. "Dean and Dan are such a sunny presence," their boss, Renzo Rosso, said appreciatively. Soon the sun will never set on their empire: In February, they'll inaugurate a new boutique on Japan's tony Ginza strip.
