Sophomore Effort
A New York Designer Sets Her Sights on Paris
Chrissie Miller seems to know everyone below 14th Street; lives on Second Avenue with members of the indie band the Virgins; and casts her musician and artist friends in the lookbooks for Sophomore, her sportswear clothing company. So, with a lock on downtown Manhattan, what's a girl to do next? "I thought I'd take over Paris, too," she joked at the party she threw for her label at Le Baron on Saturday night. And it seemed like she'd brought half of New York with her. Lindsay Lohan, Leigh Lezark, Alexandra Richards, Lazaro Hernandez, Jen Brill, and Esteban Cortazar alternated between crammed booths and a dance floor full of hipsters swinging to tunes from DJs Cassie Coane and Harley Viera-Newton.
Lohan, the notorious night owl, was ready to turn in early for once. "It's my big day tomorrow," she said, referring to her debut as the artistic adviser at Emanuel Ungaro. "I'm so excited, so very excited. I hope I can sleep." The hole left by her posse's departure was quickly filled, not least by Miller herself. "Do you think those people will mind if I steal their Champagne? It's my party, right?" she asked, eyeing a table of Frenchmen. As it happened, they didn't object when she stole their second bottle, too.
