"Everything is better in Paris. Even the store parties." More than one fashion nomad made that declaration Monday night, as Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte toasted the shop-in-shop they've curated at Colette. It certainly wasn't your average in-store cocktail do: The cool Parisian retailer's second floor featured a live techno-meets-symphony performance by the band Something A La Mode, along with specially commissioned artwork and limited-edition garments and accessories. Clémence Poésy, Dree Hemingway, Dasha Zhukova, Grace Coddington, and Caroline Sieber all turned out to see what the Pasadena designers had done with the place. In the mix were artworks from the likes of David Armstrong, Kim Gordon, and Ari Marcopoulos, and everything from Repetto for Rodarte slippers to cardboard cone hats featuring images of Rodarte runway looks. "We wanted to make this space our own world and have that represented," explained Kate Mulleavy. And perhaps only the Rodarte girls could have come up with the evening's take-home souvenir: a giant poster made from overzealous fan letters that had been sent to their pal Kirsten Dunst.
