McCartney in Fine Form at Her Paris Store Opening Party

Clan McCartney and friends assembled in force to celebrate the opening of Stella's first Paris store in the Palais Royal on Wednesday night. Husband Alasdhair Willis; dad Sir Paul and his reported fiancée, Nancy Shevell; fashion grandes dames Marianne Faithfull, Catherine Deneuve, and Loulou de la Falaise Klossowski; and PPR aristocrats Henri-François Pinault and Stefano Pilati all turned out, along with a clutch of models including Lara Stone, Sasha Pivovarova, and Lily Donaldson.

McCartney has poured a lot of herself into the new boutique. The Spring collection was nestled inside semicircular floor-to-ceiling metal sculptures that she designed herself. "After all that goes into the clothes," she said, "I find it hard to just put them on any old rack." And her typical Brit sense of humor was everywhere as well. Mannequins sported diving helmets or robot heads, and one wore a large gold lapel badge declaring "Mother"—sure to be a school-gate hit with yummy mummies everywhere.

Post-baby number three, McCartney looked noticeably slim, flashing toned bare arms courtesy of trampoline sessions and workouts with an elastic-band system devised by Madonna's trainer, Tracy Anderson. "I've had a few sessions with her, but she's always off on tour with Madonna, so now I just go round to Gwyneth's and we dance about together," she laughed, while insisting that she hasn't changed her diet in order to shape up. As the party skittered over to Le Grand Véfour—the landmark rococo restaurant near the tippy-top of dining establishments in carnivorous Paris, and also the spot where Napoleon and Joséphine once supped—McCartney stirred up her own revolution, stipulating a 100 percent veggie menu to the chef. All the pressure to produce hundreds of interesting tiny things with radishes, artichokes, carrots, and truffles seemed to slow down the kitchen, but the result was a series of mini taste bombs. Maybe that's her secret: bite-size veg dishes, eaten at very long intervals?
