Plenty of Red-Carpet Thrills at Cannes
So much for the recession casting a pall over the Cannes Film Festival. The Boulevard de la Croisette has been as starry as ever. Today, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt wowed the crowds in Versace and Tom Ford, respectively, at the Inglourious Basterds premiere, but it's been a steady stream of A-listers in big-name labels all week: Hilary Swank wore Giorgio Armani, Rachel Weisz chose Dior, and Robin Wright Penn took Narciso Rodriguez for a spin. Georgina Chapman, who's in Cannes with her moviemaking husband, Harvey Weinstein, scored a pair of coups when Diane Kruger and Penélope Cruz both donned Marchesa gowns for their turns on the red carpet. It's still too early to award the Palme d'Or for best dressed, but one of the festival's prettiest frocks so far came from little-known Australian designer Toni Maticevski. His fellow Aussie Abbie Cornish looked a movie star in the making in his lilac one-shoulder confection.
