The fashionable flocked to San Francisco last night for the opening of the spectacular Yves Saint Laurent retrospective at the de Young Museum. While surveying such iconic Saint Laurent signatures as the safari suit and the Mondrian dress, your correspondent enjoyed the eclectic fashions worn by the guests. Lynn Wyatt, Susan Gutfreund, and Yurie Pascarella wore vintage Yves Saint Laurent straight out of their closets. Vanessa Getty and Jamie Tisch chose Stefano Pilati-designed YSL gowns. Susan Casden and Tatiana Sorokko channeled Le Smoking and wore Chanel Haute Couture and Ralph Rucci, respectively. A Dior-clad Dodie Rosenkrans, meanwhile, stood admiring a green fox coat in the exhibition and suddenly realized it was something she donated. "I want everything," said Angelique Soave of the timeless Saint Laurent designs on display. Honey, you and me both. While dining on sugar pumpkin soup and grass-fed lamb, guests including Larissa Sabadash (in backless Roberto Cavalli) and Danielle Steele (in Alexander McQueen) listened to Pierre Bergé's touching remarks about Yves Saint Laurent. "I am not a genius," he said, "but 50 years ago I met a genius."
