Green Crusaders
Leo, Charlize, and Kate Save the World at Two L.A. Fêtes
Hollywood may be preparing for its annual celebration of itself, but an ensemble cast of stars spent the Thursday night before the Academy Awards thinking globally. At a silent auction for Paul Haggis' charity BrandAid, which supports artists in developing countries, Charlize Theron, Maria Bello, and a trio of Oscar nominees—Josh Brolin, Marisa Tomei, and Taraji P. Henson—were among those bidding on wares like cut-metal sculptures from Haiti. For less adventurous decorators, Dior goodies (the house co-sponsored with Vanity Fair) were also on the block. Diane Lane said she's keeping her fingers crossed for hubby Brolin's Oscar nod, explaining that his robust tan was the result of a surfing jaunt to Hawaii. "He was blowing off some steam," she said.
At the Avalon, eco-cities were the cause of choice for Leonardo DiCaprio, Rosario Dawson, and Heather Graham. Along with other A-listers, they attended a concert hosted by Global Green, an organization whose aim is to reduce carbon emissions and global warming. Kate Bosworth, just back from a quick trip—or "targeted strike"—to New York for fashion week, gamely pitched go-green faves: her clean-diesel Jetta and Thomas Friedman's Hot, Flat, and Crowded. "I feel like it should be essential school reading," she chimed. Who are we to argue with a blonde beauty in Loewe?
