L.A.'s Loveliest Ladies Hit a Pair of Charitable Fêtes
The rooftop of West Hollywood's new Andaz hotel was the site of some serious (well, pretty serious) gaming Friday night. Bally and Vanity Fair's celebrity-heavy tournament of Hollywood Domino, benefiting the Art of Elysium, found Zoe Saldana, for one, in her element. "Part of being Latina is playing dominoes," the actress explained. So why was she lingering by the pool? "If I sit down at a table, I won't get up." After neophytes like Kate Bosworth got quick tutorials, the tiles started clacking. Demi Moore ended up at the championship table, rooting for husband Ashton Kutcher. "It's a game of numbers, and he's very skilled—and very mathematical," she said. Kutcher's math skills worked for him, and he took home the title. Who said it's all about Oscars this time of year?
Meanwhile, an equally glam posse had descended on a Paramount back lot to support Montblanc and UNICEF's initiative to support education. Inside a velvet amphitheater, Milla Jovovich and Eva Longoria Parker discussed tattoos with Susan Sarandon (the latter just had her children's initials inked on her neck), while Sienna Miller and Emily Blunt gossiped nearby. Reese Witherspoon was on hand, too. "Education isn’t something you can take for granted," she said of the night's fundraising efforts. To wit, she matched Montblanc's $50,000 donation to UNICEF, presenting the charity with a check for $100,000. Jessica Lange, Lauren Hutton, Helen Hunt, and Andie MacDowell did their parts, signing specially commissioned self-portraits that will be auctioned off on September 8, International Literacy Day. Host Anil Kapoor, of Oscar favorite Slumdog Millionaire, was ready to start the bidding there and then. "I'm very glamour struck," he said of the women in the room. "So forgive me if I trip on my words here."
