Julianne Moore Hosts a Diamond-Studded Fête at the Chateau Marmont
In advance of Sunday's red-carpet bling-a-thon, Julianne Moore hosted a dinner at the Chateau Marmont to promote diamonds as a keystone, so to speak, of the African economy. A trio of jewelry designers from southern Africa and former president of Botswana Festus Mogae(seated next to Idi Amin portrayer Forest Whitaker) joined Saffron Burrows, Camilla Belle, and other pretty Hollywood faces to talk rocks. Appropriately, there was no shortage of diamond enthusiasts in the room. "I pretty much wear them whenever I can," Sharon Stone said, perched on the edge of a sofa during cocktail hour. "I've worn diamond pasties and diamond G-strings," burlesque queen Dita Von Teese confided, adding that she once stripped down to an extremely precious, strategically placed stone. "I had 12 bodyguards!" Tom Ford was there to testify that the stone of the hour wasn't just a girl's best friend. "I have lots of different pairs of diamond tuxedo studs. A properly dressed man does not wear anything but," he counseled. He's also partial to sapphires. "And I love emeralds," he added. "But the green doesn't work for my coloration."
