Behind Every Great Star
A-Listers rally around their stylists at The Hollywood Reporter's annual luncheon
The Hollywood Reporter unveiled its third annual list of Hollywood's 25 Most Powerful Stylists yesterday. Those who made the coveted countdown gathered at L.A.'s Soho House to celebrate with a luncheon cosponsored by the magazine and Jimmy Choo. Taking top honors for the first time was Leslie Fremar, whose clients include Julianne Moore, Charlize Theron, and Jennifer Connelly. "It feels great," Fremar told Style.com. "I wasn't expecting the number, but I know how hard I work, so it feels good to be recognized." Fremar certainly earned her spot, having worked double duty at this year's Oscars—dressing Theron in not one, but two different outfits. "I'm thinking, She needs one dress, but she was dancing, too, so she ended up needing two dresses," Fremar said. "It was a huge learning curve for me, because I'm not a costume designer." More recently, there's been talk online of an impending Theron-inspired denim line. So, is she or isn't she? we had to ask. "Things spread online like wildfire. It's not true," Fremar responded. "I don't know where that came from, but we don't have a jeans line currently."
Seated nearby was runner-up Petra Flannery, who was featured alongside client Zoe Saldana on one of The Hollywood Reporter's four different covers promoting this year's list. "It takes a lot of dedication, and loving what we do," Flannery said. "It's not always known to the outside world the amount of work it takes, but during awards season, the preparation can take months. We go through a lot of looks." As for what makes a great stylist? "It's an amazing relationship, because we're friends first," Saldana said, a sentiment that Flannery echoed. "Zoe's a dream client. We've developed a trust, and working with her doesn't feel like work."
