Fresh off of walking the red carpet with Elizabeth Banks at the Costume Institute Gala, Alberta Ferretti was in Los Angeles yesterday for a luncheon in her honor hosted by C.H.I.P.S. (Colleague Helpers in Philanthropic Service). The annual event drew 250 fashion fans, including Marisa Tomei, Monique Lhuillier, Nicky Hilton, and Lynn Collins. "You can never lose with Alberta," said Angie Harmon, who first met the designer when she was 18. "She's one of those really spirited Italian women and she's a matriarch. I always ask her advice about my kids."

But dresses, not babies, were the talk of the day. After lunch, guests were treated to a runway show of Ferretti's Fall collection. Wearing a tangerine one-shoulder number by the designer, Cold Case's Kathryn Morris testified to the frock's transformative powers: "I feel like I should whisk myself over to Italy, have a cappuccino, and ride a Vespa with a really beautiful Italian man."
