California Dream-ing
Chiara Clemente Debuts Her Latest Doc Out West
Our City Dreams, Chiara Clemente's documentary about the New York City-based artists Swoon, Ghada Amer, Kiki Smith, Marina Abramovic, and Nancy Spero, incited some East Coast nostalgia at its L.A. premiere. "The movie made me miss New York," said Katherine Ross, mingling in a crowd that included Tracee Ellis Ross, Lulu de Kwiatkowski, and Rosetta Getty. "I try to enjoy California, but I still have that New Yorker attitude." Clemente, meanwhile, was enjoying her visit to the City of Angels. "L.A. hasn't been my town for a while, but it's good to be back," she said, adding that she's pro-left coast Thai food but anti-driving. Contributing to the spirit of bicoastal unity was Liz Goldwyn. Just back from a trip east, where her short movie Underwater Ballet was screened in Times Square, she said, "I was really inspired by Chiara's film and I know how hard it is to get a documentary made. We have to support each other."
