The legendary Beverly Hills Hotel, affectionately known in L.A. as the "Pink Palace," was the site of the 13th annual Premiere Women in Hollywood event on Wednesday. Sponsored by Chanel, the evening honored Cate Blanchett, Annette Bening, Sofia Coppola, Sally Field, and Evan Rachel Wood. Stars like Rachel Griffiths, Anjelica Huston, and Dame Judi Dench paid tribute to the honorees with touching introductions, while Christina Applegate, Elisha Cuthbert, and Marly Shelton, among others, looked on. "I'm jet-lagged and a complete breast-feeding mess," said Gwyneth Paltrow before introducing a hilarious Bening, who waxed poetic on everything from the writings of Nora Ephron to the narcissism of actors. Presenting the Chanel Spotlight Award to 19-year-old Wood, picture-perfect in a black bejeweled dress, Edward Norton said, "When I realized I was the only Y chromosome in the room, I almost spit out my gin and tonic."

Nothing so indecorous transpired. Guests dined on a trio of petit filet mignon, Atlantic salmon, and sage-roasted breast of poussin before making off with Chanel goodie bags chock-full of fragrance, makeup, and skincare products.

The previous night in New York, the stars aligned once again for the indefatigable Andrew Saffir. His Cinema Society screening of All the King's Men at Regal Cinemas Battery Park and after-party at David Rockwell's new "green-living" residence, Riverhouse, attracted the likes of Tim Robbins, Bruce Willis, and Connie Nielsen. "I am such a sucker for Sean Penn," confided Debbie Bancroft. "But that Southern accent is a little ridiculous." The star plays Willie Stark, whom author Robert Penn Warren loosely based on Louisiana Governor Huey Long. Fellow guest Hunt Slonem, meanwhile, revealed that it was his plantation property that was featured throughout the flick. "I only was there for the last day of filming," he said. "We had a huge party and the sheriffs blocked off the house. That was cool."

Uptown at Donna Karan's Madison Avenue boutique, Yvonne Force Villareal, Allison Sarofim, and Charles Ruger hosted an evening of shopping to benefit the Ballroom Marfa Drive-In project in Marfa, Texas. The theater, which will showcase films from the MoMA archives, is being designed by Ole Scheeren, a partner in Rem Koolhaas' Office for Metropolitan Architecture, and is slated to open in early 2007. Fellow supporters included Amy Sacco, Heather Mnuchin, and Lisa Anastos, who reportedly hurt her foot dancing but could nonetheless be seen bopping around on crutches to the suave sounds of DJ Coleman. That Hermès scarf wrapped around her ankle was a nice touch.
