"I'm excited, but it's always a little nerve-wracking making something and then putting it out there," said third-time director (and first-time mother-to-be)
Sofia Coppola
at the L.A. premiere of her new film, Marie Antoinette. Unlike the plucky teen queen with the enviable wardrobe played by Kirsten Dunst, the pregnant director has had some clothing dilemmas of late. "It's been a bit of a challenge dressing while pregnant," she said. "But I'm lucky it's the season of sack dresses." The film, which of course leans more toward tightly wound corsets, had more than enough eye candy to entertain an audience that included
China Chow,
Will Ferrell,
Rose McGowan, and
Ione Skye.
Chanel hosted the post party at the Chateau Marmont, where champagne flowed and desserts inspired by the movieeverything from tarts to cotton candy to, yes, cakewere served in an elegant tented setting. Mischa Barton danced to eighties-inspired remixes underneath a swinging chandelier, while Orlando Bloom and Drew Barrymore (in town with the Strokes, who played a show at the Hollywood Bowl just a few hours prior) milled about the legendary hotel's grounds and gardens. "My favorite scene was the shoes!" said Maria Bello, referring to a rapid-fire montage of footwear shots in the film. "The costumes were the main reason I came out tonight." Chances are Oscar will agree.
