LACMA Celebrates the Work of Stanley Kubrick and Ed Ruscha
Saturday night was indeed a celebration of the art of the film as Gucci presented LACMA's second annual Art + Film Gala honoring Stanley Kubrick and Ed Ruscha. The evening, co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and Eva Chow, with Steven Spielberg paying special tribute to the late filmmaker, brought out a glittering guest list from both worlds. "I think tonight's exciting because people know that Los Angeles is committed to film, but not that many people know that it's so committed to the arts," Kerry Washington said. "It's a special night to be able to bridge the two."
As the likes of Rob Pattinson, Larry Gagosian, Salma Hayek Pinault, and Jennifer Aniston enjoyed cocktail hour, the Gucci fragrance face Evan Rachel Wood sang a surprise set that included The Very Thought of You, followed by a special performance later in the evening by Florence and the Machine, for whom the label has created tour costumes. Though new to the art scene, actress Jennifer Morrison found a connection to her craft. "The way you tell a story ends up becoming a visual image that you may not have anticipated and that becomes its own form of art," she said. Karlie Kloss, in L.A for work, was eager to get in to see the Ruscha and Kubrick exhibitions for the first time. "Since it's so close to Halloween, it just seems like perfect timing to be here," she said. The model's favorite Kubrick film is The Shining.
