Forty Years Young
The Art Star Celebrates a Big Birthday
What to celebrate at Aaron Young's birthday dinner last night? The in-demand artist turned 40 but had some other big news, too: "I proposed to my longtime girlfriend, Laure, and she said yes," he told Style.com between one of the many courses being served up at Acme, the art-bedecked new restaurant from Indochine's Jean-Marc Houmard.
Young spent a good deal of the evening accepting congratulations for both developments. Pierre Hardy ooh-la-la'ed when Young's aforementioned belle, Laure Heriard Dubreuil, flashed the new ring—the two are friends from back in the day, when they worked together at Balenciaga, and Hardy, in town for pre-collections, happens to live across from Almine Rech, the Paris gallery where Young recently had a show. "Paris is a village," the shoe designer shrugged. Meanwhile, Olympia Scarry chatted with Adam Kimmel, Dree Hemingway offered Lauren Santo Domingo her babysitting services, and Houmard, no doubt keen to put his new establishment's cool cred on par with his old one's, kept busy seat-hopping and directing waiters.
Young populated his table with artist pals Dan Colen and Nate Lowman and power gallerist Tony Shafrazi. "I think he's in love with stuff, you know? And with his girlfriend," Shafrazi reflected after opening a round of toasts. "He's engaged, he's in love, which is what I want to get to. I'm not there yet—I'm learning from these young guys."
