Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher Meet Cute in No Strings Attached
It's Natalie Portman's movie season: In No Strings Attached, she plays a busy doctor convinced that things with the nice guy who likes her (Ashton Kutcher) should stay purely physical. Maybe it's not too much of a stretch to call it a romantic-comedy inversion of Black Swan: Steely overachiever finds her gentle side, by way of the bedroom.
Portman was not on hand at last night's Cinema Society screening of the film (co-sponsored by DKNY Jeans and DeLeón tequila), but Kutcher was, and he was happy to add to all the plaudits his co-star has been getting in the past couple months. "I'm not the star of this film; Natalie Portman is," he told an audience that included Hilary Rhoda, Maryna Linchuk, and Charlotte Ronson just before the curtain went up at the Tribeca Grand. "She is an absolute rock star, and for me this movie was as much as anything just an opportunity to work with her."
Demi Moore (in Dior) joined the actor at the Soho Grand for the after-party, where cast member Greta Gerwig surely wasn't the only guest reflecting on the film's contemporary—and very funny—take on relationships. "I think it gets right the fact that it's not the focus of everyone's life in their twenties," Gerwig offered. "I think people's lives center more around friends and career right now than on 'finding the one.' "
