The First Lady may be the world's most visible supporter of on-the-rise designers, but others have been rallying to the cause, too. At the Villency Emerging Fashion Program dinner for Elise Øverland and Threeasfour at Bobo on Wednesday night, Eric Villency explained why he thought the time was right to invest in up-and-coming talent: "Everyone's very bottom-line-oriented now, and people are not interested in taking risks," he said. "But you've got to keep living life."

Øverland, who dressed Shakira in leather pants for her Lincoln Memorial gig last Sunday, couldn't have agreed more. The evening, she said, was "about bringing a group of friends together and having fun: Eat, dance, and be merry. I've been dancing all night." Fueled by? "Whiskey. And before that, Mezcal at my studio. I think there was some tequila, and then here I've been drinking mostly vodka. The dinner, I haven't seen yet."
