Val in Real Life
Madge, Gwyneth, and More Take In The Last Emperor
"It's a new chapter of our life," Valentino's right-hand man, Giancarlo Giammetti, declared from the Plaza's Oak Room Tuesday night. "We are not getting bored." No kidding: The designer may be officially retired, but the glitzy dinner for the event (co-sponsored by Gilt Groupe and Quintessentially) following the New York premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor drew the likes of Anne Hathaway, Zac Posen, Claire Danes, and, to cap it all off, Madonna, who snuggled up to gal pal Gwyneth Paltrow. "The attention to detail, the perfection," cooed Paltrow, recalling real-life scenes of the couturier at work. "They're memories that I'll really treasure."
Memories from the final years of Valentino's impressive career took over one of MoMA's big screens before dinner at the Plaza. From footage of the designer's anniversary blowout in Rome to scenes with his famous pugs to what director Matt Tyrnauer refers to as "divo moments," it's all on film. As Valentino put it, almost as though he couldn't believe it himself, "I opened my life, yes."
