To celebrate its new collaboration with Kate Young, Target took over a decommissioned school on Mott Street last night and turned it into a prom paradise. Partygoers were greeted by prom queens wearing Kate Young for Target, a giant disco ball straight out of Pretty in Pink spun over the dance floor, and Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor deejayed all of her favorite school-dance sing-alongs.

A prom was, oddly enough, the one type of party many of last night's guests had never been to. "It's my first prom!" said 16-year-old Harry Brant. It was something he had in common with Michelle Williams, who, for all the Dawson's Creek dances she attended, was never able to make her own. "I love absolutely everything about Kate," Williams told on her way out the door. "We're both parents, and she's able to make fashion something that's really practical."

Indeed, as a stylist designing the collection, Young kept practicality in mind. She has styled Target campaigns for years, but when she asked to do pieces that might be a bit complex for the Target customer—like polka-dot bodysuits—she had to reassure the team that yes, in fact, they make sense. Young saved the last dance of the evening for her husband. The party coincided with their eight-year wedding anniversary. "And he stole my Dries plaid shirt for tonight!" she said with a laugh. It was an indiscretion she was willing to overlook as they took the floor for "Stairway to Heaven."
