The Fashion Set Helps Raise Funds for New York's Homeless
As the likes of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Diane von Furstenberg, and Francisco Costa filed inside the Waldorf Astoria for the annual Women in Need (WIN) benefit last night, one guest caught in the fray remarked, with suitable formality: "The buying power and influence on the fashion industry in this room right now is unbelievable." And that collective spending power was put to good use. Over $2.5 million was raised, which will go toward WIN's efforts to provide New York City's homeless women and their children with housing and support.
After dinner—and speeches by the evening's Commit to WIN honorees, Fairchild Fashion Group CEO Gina Sanders, and Neiman Marcus president Karen Katz—guests caught up with familiar faces and celebrated the evening's success. In the center of the room, Eve and Catherine Malandrino pointed out the hottest commodity of the night. "Asymmetry," Malandrino said, as she lined up shoulder-to-shoulder with Eve, both in one-shoulder frocks by the French designer. "Everyone seems to be wearing one-shoulder dresses tonight."
