Talking Susan Boyle and Second Chances at the Women in Need Gala
At Women in Need's annual benefit dinner, Town & Country editor Pamela Fiori got official kudos for supporting the organization's efforts to give homeless women and children a second chance. "Don't we all deserve one?" she asked from the dais in the Pierre's ballroom, adding, "Except for Bernie Madoff." Purse-pinching times notwithstanding, more than $975,000 was raised from tickets to the event alone. And speaking of women going from zero to hero, how about unlikely singing sensation Susan Boyle? "I love her voice," gushed Tory Burch. "I honestly don't love the whole situation, with people talking about her looks. I think it's a little humiliating." Thumbs-down on the instant makeover, Burch added. "She should make herself feel good and not worry about what everybody else is thinking." Isaac Mizrahi was less forgiving. "I feel like she's a pretty good singer, and if she didn't look that way she probably would have gotten voted off the show," he sniffed. "I found it all so exploitative. Ugly people have the right to stink, too."
