Macy Gray Headlines Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Annual Benefit
The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering did some cost-cutting before its 2nd annual Spring Ball at the Plaza last night. Ceramic artichoke globes and fresh white tulips served as low-key centerpieces, and there were burlap accents in the green and beige color scheme. But there was nothing budget about the crowd, the evening's main act, or the generosity on display. Robert De Niro and Tiki Barber—two gents who aren't necessarily mainstays on the dinner-dance circuit—dropped by to show their support. Macy Gray got co-chair Tory Burch, Cristina Greeven Cuomo, and Marjorie Gubelmann on their feet. And nearly $1 million was raised for the Cancer Center.
As the gala wrapped up, a few guests floated after-party ideas. Scores, the famed strip club, was celebrating its grand reopening downtown. There were no takers, although Gilles Mendel certainly perked up at the thought. "I'm gonna miss it?" he asked. "I've been waiting for that."
