Causing a Commotion
After-Partying With the CFDA's Big Winners
In Top of the Standard fashion, last night's official Swarovski-sponsored CFDA Fashion Awards after-party took some time to get rolling. "It's always slow at first," Brad Goreski said sometime after midnight. "Everyone is being so well behaved, but just wait, it's getting started." If there was any fear that the evening's main event might've worn people out, it was allayed when the big winners Joseph Altuzarra, Billy Reid, and Phillip Lim started pouring in, alongside the likes of Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, and Olivier Theyskens.
Kate Bosworth's Altuzarra dress had lots of admirers. "It's funny," she said. "When I first e-mailed him about wearing it after I saw it in his runway show on Style.com, he told me, 'Well, it's quite revealing, you know.' But I was like, 'Well, it's pretty conservative compared to most things I wear.' " And compared to last year's Fashion Icon, Lady Gaga, who caused a commotion in her custom Mugler, Bosworth's look was hardly racy. Michelle Harper, on the other hand, gave Gaga a run for her money in a custom Christian Cota gown. "At first, you could see everything and it was almost completely see-through, but we didn't want to go there. You have to draw the line somewhere," said the designer. "Look, I even have this special reflective tape in my pocket in case we need it for any reason—got to be prepared." It wasn't a dress made for dancing, so Harper stayed clear, but the rest of the crowd kicked up its heels. Garance Doré even kicked hers off. On that note, Goreski reported, "I just want to say that Alex Wang and Erin Wasson are dirty dancing over there in the corner right now."
