A Slightly Soggy Rufus Wainwright Concert in the Hamptons
It's been said that the Hamptons revolve around two things: real estate and the weather. According to local brokers, the former isn't so hot, and on Saturday, the latter proved tricky, too. A relentless morning downpour threatened to spoil an entire day's worth of outdoor pursuits, including Rufus Wainwright's concert at the Watermill Center garden. "We were pretty depressed," said the baroque pop god. "But we knew if we hauled the stuff in it'd be a lovely afternoon. So we just moved half." Luckily, the clouds parted in time for Wainwright to go on, and when he did, he invited the ladies of his life—mom Kate McGarrigle, aunt Anna McGarrigle, and sister Martha Wainwright—to join him in a rousing rendition of the family hit "Bloody Mother F---ing A--hole." Between that song, the towels that Brooks Brothers threw into the pre-event gift bags, and the Champagne that came courtesy of Viktor & Rolf, the morning's showers were but a distant memory. Afterward, a few lucky concertgoers, including hosts Amanda Hearst and Luigi Tadini, headed to Lisa de Kooning's house for dinner. "Not the best start to the day," said Hearst. "But what a finish!"
