A Host of Parties Take the Fashion Flock From the West Willage to the East and Back Again
French Lessons
Sunday night proved to be instructive, as Parisian fashion emporium Colette imported its cult monthly Dance Class party from the Right Bank to the West Village's Culture Club. Choreographers in skeleton masks, mummy gear, and other disguises showed 25 audience members how to get down to Daft Punk's 1997 hit "Around the World.¿ "I learned the chicken move," said Ellen von Unwerth, who later practiced her new head-jerking skills on the dance floor. British rapper M.I.A. received a very different lesson when she lit up a cigarette. "I was grabbed by the neck and kicked out by security," she said. Being a feisty London girl, M.I.A. came right back in to enjoy the rest of the night—and another illicit cigarette in the bathroom. Some things you can't teach.
Purple Haze
Low-key was the way to be at a dinner hosted by Purple magazine and the Villency Emerging Fashion Fund across town at Freeman's. Purple's current cover girl, Carine Roitfeld, was nowhere in sight, but Vincent Gallo chatted all Night with editor Olivier Zahm and photographer Terry Richardson, who shot him for The cover of the French fashion rag's next issue. Also in the mix were Ruffian designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais, Maurizio Cattelan, Leelee Sobieski, Jared Leto, Sari Gueron (fresh from her first show at the Bryant Park tents), and, of course, Eric Villency. He kept a close watch on his very pregnant spouse, Kimberly Guilfoyle, while she held her own in a pair of three-inch Louboutins. "We're due in 18 days," said Villency, "and I keep waking up at night thinking, 'Let's do it.'"
Milla Time
"I don't mind having people over," said Milla Jovovich at her Greenwich Village town house, the site of the Jovovich-Hawk after party. "But I put everything valuable away just in case." Helena Christensen and Mischa Barton stopped by for an air kiss and a caipirinha. Paris Hilton also appeared. Towards midnight the hostess was ready to retire. "I just want to sit down and talk to Carmen about everything that went on today," said Jovovich. By that time we were ready to call it a night, too.
