Diesel Throws Itself a 30th Birthday Blowout
Where else should Diesel—that purveyor of artfully disheveled, distressed denim jeans loved by an artfully disheveled, denim-wearing clientele—celebrate its 30th but Brooklyn? Just to be clear, this was no Pabst Blue Ribbon pub crawl on Bedford Avenue. The Saturday night event was an all-out circus, and a rock 'n' roll one at that, with snake charmers, contortionists, a crowd of 5,000, and musical sets by the likes of Chaka Khan, Franz Ferdinand, M.I.A., N.E.R.D. and the rapper T.I. When the tent swelled to capacity, fire marshals unsuccessfully tried to clear the balcony. "If you want the party to go on, half of you up there will come down here. Now!" bellowed Franz Ferdinand's lead singer, Alex Kapranos, from the stage. Far from the maddening crowd, Lindsay Lohan, Chace Crawford, and Theodora Richards sipped Champagne and rocked out in a VIP area backstage. "Nobody told me anything except that this was Diesel's 30th birthday and I was like, 30 is pretty huge, so I gotta go and check it out!" said Richards. We're looking forward to your big 3-0, too, Theodora. In 2015.
