As usual, the hostess left no detail undone, from her costume—a green-streaked wig, silver breastplate, and unitard that she sketched and designed herself—to the decorations, which she said she envisioned as the love child of Takashi Murakami and Jeff Koons. The theme, in case it's not apparent yet, was "Evening of Anime."

Sarofim's guests didn't lack for clever ideas, either. Chris Benz wore head-to-toe hot pink, and we do mean head-to-toe. Hope Atherton and Elise Øverland dressed as Siamese twins—"you try applying black lip gloss while someone attached to you is trying to use the loo," Atherton complained. And leave it to the fashion crowd to work big labels into the mix: Linda Fargo chose vintage Louis Vuitton and Dr. Lisa Airan donned this season's Rodarte. "Kate Mulleavy told me anime was an influence of theirs," she rationalized. Douglas Friedman's California Roll proved more of a sartorial challenge. "I had to come here on my knees in the back of an SUV," he explained. "But what would Halloween be without a little bit of humiliation?"
