M&Ms Help the Medicine Go Down
RxArt Honors Dan Colen at Its Annual Fundraiser
RxArt, a nonprofit dedicated to livening up children's hospitals with contemporary art, held its 12th annual fundraiser last night at Milk Studios. The difference this year: A few days before the party, it was revealed that a portion of the evening's proceeds would to go to artists devastated by Superstorm Sandy. "We need to give back to the lifeblood of the industry," said Jen Brill, a member of the event committee. Olivia Kim, Opening Ceremony's VP of creative, and Brill's partner in a capsule shoe collection for Cole Haan, was doing her part at the silent auction, but she wasn't saying what she was interested in. "I learned my lesson last year—told everyone which pieces I wanted, and then got outbid by Terry Richardson on every single one!"
Dan Colen was the evening's honoree. The artist is currently installing his giant M&Ms sculptures throughout the pediatrics unit at King's County Hospital in Brooklyn. Said RxArt founder Diane Brown: "It's really going to transform the environment for children and their families."
