Val Goes Virtual
Toasting the Designer's New Online Musuem
The Valentino faithful came in droves last night to toast the retired designer's new Virtual Museum at Frank Gehry's IAC building in New York. The event capped off a week that began with a press conference announcing the ambitious new project. And despite the torrential rains, it seemed like nearly all of Val's gals were wearing dresses by the designer. If they weren't as glitzed up as the images of Sophia Loren and other famous ladies in his couture gowns flashing on a sprawling wall-to-wall video screen, they came pretty darn close.
"This virtual museum was an idea which I had when the Internet first came out, but only now I was able to finalize it," Valentino's business partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, told Style.com in between air-kisses with Sarah Jessica Parker, Claire Danes, and Daphne Guinness. "I really wanted to do more than have a museum that is stuck in one place, and only with the work of a single designer. Besides, things can get so dusty." Not a chance of that last night. Valentino and Giancarlo didn't reprise their karaoke moment from Carine Roitfeld's New York fashion week party, but they did take a few spins on the dance floor.
