Westwood Fêted With a Retrospective in San Francisco

On Friday, the de Young Museum celebrated the opening of Vivienne Westwood: 36 Years in Fashion, and West Coast fans came out en masse to salute the English designer. The presence of society doyennes such as Danielle Steel, Denise Hale, and Dodie Rosenkranz made the crowd decidedly more posh than punk, but there was also a subversive streak to the evening. "I'm wearing my blouse upside down and backward," said former Westwood model Tatiana Sorokko.
Dame Vivienne, meanwhile, opted for a straight-off-the-runway cocktail design. "I call this my Flintstone dress because of its cartoon effect," she said. "It's a couple of hours old!" When asked who she would love to see play her in the forthcoming biopic, she confessed that she doesn't have any idea and never sees movies. However, after viewing a photo of the designer as a teenager, attendees Susan Casden and Christine Suppes had a suggestion: "It has to be Jodie Foster."
