Fashion Fund Finalists Share The Runway In Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach is used to hosting golfers, but last Friday the California resort town welcomed a different sort of competitor: the ten finalists for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award. The weekend fashion show, sponsored by Lexus, was not part of the judging process but simply a showcase for the fresh talents behind the labels 3.1, Costello Tagliapietra, Devi Kroell, Doo.Ri, Jovovich-Hawk, Marchesa, Rag & Bone, Rodarte, Subversive, and Thakoon. After the presentation, the crew took their bows to the sound of David Bowie's "Young Americans" and then headed to L'Auberge Carmel, where Vogue's Sally Singer and Lisa Love hosted an intimate four-course dinner. Though the tequila soup with grapefruit sorbet was extremely welcome, the real highlight, said contender Kroell, was "getting to know my fellow designers."
