Artists pop up as reference points for designers every season, and if the likes of Anna Sui, Oscar de la Renta, and Phillip Lim are to be believed, Gustav Klimt is Fall's inspirational canvasman. Now the Neue Galerie is expanding the Austrian moment with an exhibition of jewelry from Wiener Werkstätte, the early twentieth-century Viennese school of design. Our favorite piece is this stone-laden brooch by workshop co-founder and Klimt contemporary Josef Hoffmann. Just don't get too attached: You can't take these baubles with you.
Josef Hoffmann silver brooch with agate, amethyst, bloodstone, coral, jasper, lapis lazuli, moonstone, opal, and tourmaline. On view at the Neue Galerie in New York from March 2 through June 30, 2008. For more information, see www.neuegalerie.org. Not for sale.
