We’re divided on what to call them—rompers, jumpers, playsuits?—but there’s no doubt that the one-piece shorts-and-a-top combo has made the leap from childhood staple to chic summer basic. Where did the trend come from? Designers like Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney have been sending the romper down the runway for a few years now, and Stefano Pilati created a chiffon version for YSL that Gemma Ward wore on the February 2005 cover of Paris Vogue. But the craze for the short and playful style really took off on the street, where it’s become a favorite of cool kids the world over. Here are our picks for the best and brightest rompers of the summer.
