Rucci

Guests at last night’s fête to celebrate the publication of journalist Lucia Serlegna’s Fashion Details Make the Difference at the Morgan Library were treated to a visual foray into some of the inspirations behind Fall 2008 fashion: teddy bears, chocolate cake, and Renaissance art. Not literally, though—the screen-projected images were merely meant to evoke the season’s opulent, detail-heavy spirit. It’s a concept Ralph Rucci, who along with FIT’s Valerie Steele was one of the keynote speakers at the event, understands very well. So what in the designer’s own wardrobe best embodies this aesthetic? “Double-faced coats,” he said. “They’re like second skins. I have an addiction to coats.”
