art school

September 30, 2007  6:39 pm

“This is a crash course in art. In the funniest way!” observed Liz Kabler, who was described to us by the organizer of the Serpentine Future Contemporaries party held last night in London as a “very important young American.” Kabler should certainly know her way around contemporary art; her family is among the most significant patrons of the arts in New York. No surprise, then, that she’s a member of the Future Contemporaries crew, which is billed as “an exclusive members club for a new generation of philanthropists aged 39 and under,” with quarterly private viewings of Serpentine exhibits and a roster of happenings for subscribers. If last night’s Jo Malone-sponsored event, the first in the program, was any indication, this will be the club to join. Gathered in the pavilion designed for the gallery by Olafur Eliasson were Jade Jagger, Boujis nightclub founder Jake Parkinson-Smith, and model Astrid Muñoz. Also there was Lily Atherton Hanbury, who made a fine point when she said, while enjoying the excellent Champagne on offer, ” This is just the loveliest way to ease into art, for those who want to. It’s painless.”
