how the west was won

September 13, 2007  1:33 pm

One of the last dinners of fashion week was the one held for designer Alexis Phifer—significant other of Kanye West—and her clothing line, Ghita, last night at the Astor Library at the St. Regis Hotel. West, who was wearing a gray Calvin Klein blazer with black jeans and white lace-up Vans, not only talked up his lady’s designs (she was wearing a one-shouldered ruffled satin cocktail dress from her Spring collection) but also weighed in on his much-hyped battle with frenemy rival 50 Cent. “I’m killing him,” he said. “Today I was number one on iTunes. I’m going to take it the whole way, baby.” But West did have one concern. “Things are getting crazy; I think his record label is buying stuff,” he continued. “He went from number 8 to like the top 3 in one day. Something ain’t right.” And we thought fashion was cutthroat.
