test pattern

Todd Thomas chose standardized tests (and their accompanying anxiety) as the theme of his Spring collection, which he debuted at a cocktail party at 60 Thompson last night. His sheaths and shapely jackets were cut from fabrics printed with Rorschach inkblots, SAT forms, and Gestalt test patterns, as well as another print featuring a bright-yellow No. 2 pencil. There to help him celebrate was his pal and client Debbie Harry—decked out in one of the Gestalt dresses—who confessed to being an avowed test-hater. No surprise there, but we were slightly more perplexed to hear that the onetime queen of the downtown New York scene doesn’t consider herself a fashion icon. “That’s absurd,” she scoffed. “I’m not very fashionable at all.”—Nancy MacDonell
