the boys in the brand

September 20, 2007  4:11 pm

At first glance, the crowd outside the Rodnik party at Topshop’s Oxford Circus flagship store last night looked like it was honoring the designers’ signature parasols by brandishing a sea of umbrellas. In fact, it was raining hard and there was such a demand to get in that the doormen couldn’t keep up. Accessory-wise, the Rodnik boys themselves were sporting a top hat (Philip Colbert) and bowler (Richard Ascott), both teamed with glam-rock gold blazers, a look that came into its own when they started their set. Some partygoers, concerned that the pair appeared to be having too much fun onstage, wondered if a change in careers from fashion to music was in the works. “Don’t worry—we’re not giving up the day job,” Ascott assured us. Given how accessory-heavy next season looks, that’s a relief.
