“It is extremely upsetting for our store to be attacked in this way, and a huge amount of wasted energy to sort out. However, given the frequency of these attacks, it seems like you are no one unless you are ram-raided these days!” said Anya Hindmarch on Wednesday, the day after her Notting Hill boutique was burgled by London’s smash-and-grab moped thieves. About £20,000 ($40,000) worth of stock was taken in the midnight raid, including this season’s coveted Lautner bag and a bespoke crocodile bag, the latter alone worth £6,500 ($13,000). The perps were four men on two mopeds, and odds are they’re part of the same gang that has hit FrostFrench, Roger Vivier, Christopher Kane, Brora, Ralph Lauren, Luella, and Marc Jacobs in nocturnal raids over the past few months. Given that two of the three nominees for the BFC’s designer of the year award have already been hit (Hindmarch and Luella Bartley), it would be no surprise if the third, Stella McCartney, beefed up the security for her Bruton Street store even further.
