“Tonight is to remind you California designers that we do not forget you,” said CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg as she welcomed an intimate crowd of friends and fellow designers into her Beverly Hills abode last night. “In fact, we envy you.” Motioning to local talents Jasmin Shokrian, Magda Berliner, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, Gregory Parkinson, James Perse, and Johnson Hartig of Libertine, von Furstenberg, who was wearing a little black dress and gold Louboutin heels, extended the compliment. “Designers look a lot cooler in California than they do anywhere else.” Bingo! After getting everyone’s attention, she then got down to business, filling the crowd in on everything from the current status of copyright infringement law to recently introduced FedEx designer discounts. Once the formalities were completed, guests sipped cocktails by candlelight and explored the sumptuous grounds while von Furstenberg greeted latecomers Kelly Lynch and Shiva Rose McDermott, explaining, “This is basically what I do when I’m not doing my real job.”
