green theme

October 15, 2007  2:34 pm

One thing fashion shows are not is restrained. From the sometimes poster-size, heavy paper stock invitations to the mountains of giveaways, it’s safe to say that they’re not the most eco-friendly of events. But all that could be changing, with Los Angeles leading the way. L.A. fashion week, which started yesterday, is the first anywhere to receive a CarbonNeutral™ designation, which means that each metric ton of carbon emissions caused by it that cannot be eliminated will be “neutralized” by investments into projects that will cancel out carbon dioxide emissions elsewhere in the world. Continuing with the accountability theme, a variety of eco-friendly initiatives will be highlighted, including designers and products that draw from sustainable resources. Leave it to the Left Coast to show us how it’s done.
